Ask any first person shooter fan what one of the most fun shooters they have ever played is and they will more than likely mention GearBox Software’s over the top action FPS-RPG Borderlands. First released in 2009 Borderlands took the First Person Shooter and sweet-talked it into bed with the RPG genre and what they made together was incredible. The critics and fans loved it and its sequel received even higher praise in 2012. The last game from the series was the enjoyable Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel in 2014, while not as highly regarded as its predecessors, it is still a very fun and enjoyable game.
It seems then that GearBox Software will be appearing at the PAX East Convention at the end of month, March 28th to be precise and they have went ahead and announced that they will be revealing “never-before seen reveals, exclusives, and surprises.” Does this mean that the long awaited Borderlands 3 is finally going to get some air time or are GearBox ready to show off a whole new game? They may even be pulling the wool over our eyes and be ready to announce a new addition to their back catalogue. After all they do own IP’s such as Brothers in Arms, Battleborn and even Duke Nukem, so they could surprise us with something from one of those IP’s. We do have to take into a few factors when considering this though. Brother in Arms had its last outing with the underwhelming Brothers in Arms 3: Sons of War back in 2014 while the long awaited and extremely disappointing Duke Nukem Forever was back in 2011. Battleborn is the newest of GearBox Software’s games but disappointing sales already make it feel like a distant memory.
It stands to reason then that GearBox Software might be finally ready to show off the next instalment in its much loved Borderlands series. There have been plenty of rumours and apparent leaks but none of it is known to be true as of yet. There have been mentions of new classes, new areas and all new antagonists with links to heroes of the past but this is all hearsay at this point. With any luck then we’ll find out come March 28th whether we finally get to return to Pandora, become super ultra-bad asses and most importantly, get to hang out with Mr. Torgue once again!
