It’s certainly a good time for British competitive gaming at the minute. Not only did we see a number of UK based teams performing well in Insomina63 earlier this month to reach the CSGO finals, but in more recent times Brits are able to boast about the fact that Team UK have made it to the final eight of the Overwatch World Cup, which will see the team heading overseas to Blizzcon to take on USA.
Blizzcon, the annual event surrounding all things Blizzard including showcases for the likes of World of Warcraft, StarCraft II, Heroes of the Storm, Hearthstone, Diablo and of course Overwatch, is a thrilling exhibition to bring fans the very latest on these franchises. In more recent years, especially since the announcement of the heavy competitive gaming path that Overwatch would be taking, there has been a huge eSports presence at the event, and 2018 doesn’t look to be any different.
The UK join France in Anaheim in November, with the French outfit defeating Team UK 4-0 to take the top spot. UK meanwhile placed second, beating out the likes of Netherlands, Poland, Italy and Germany to advance. The UK did manage to reach the quarter finals last year also, where they were eliminated 3-0 by Sweden.
The quarter final draw will as mentioned see the UK vs. USA, whilst other fixtures include China vs. Finland, South Korea vs. Australia and France vs. Canada. These matches will take place in Anaheim, California on Friday, November 2nd.
