Capcom revealed that they are releasing a 30 minute 1 shot demo of the upcoming Resident Evil 2 remake. It seems this was first leaked on the Microsoft Store, the demo will go live tomorrow and run until the 31st. The description of the demo gives the following information:
“This specially tuned demo allows you to experience the newly reimagined Resident Evil 2, but be warned: whilst you can continue as many times as you like after dying, you’ll only have 30 MINUTES to complete the demo. Take in the horror atmosphere at your own pace,or make a desperate dash to solve all the puzzles Raccoon Police Department has to offer? The choice is yours!”
This seems very similar to the original demo of Resident Evil 2 on the PlayStation which only gave ten minutes to blast through as much as you could but with the big difference being that the new demo is a one-time use only.
It’s a very clever use of a demo as obviously people will be playing it different ways. Some will blast through it and try and see as much of the updated RCPD station as they can while others will take their time and soak in the atmosphere. This will then lead to stories being swapped amongst gamers and stories about who saw and got killed by what.
Capcom confirmed that the demo will be available to all platforms and all will have the same time limit. This does beg the question that if this is successful will more developers go down the timed demo routed rather than pre-order betas? I guess we will see how well this works out Capcom.
Resident Evil 2 is due for release on the 25th January for PS4, Xbox One and PC.
