The contract that existed between Ginx Esports TV and Virgin Media TV is set to be terminated, following a recent review from Ginx that caused dispute on how to take the channel forward. As of October 22nd, Ginx Esports TV will not be broadcast by Virgin, with Ginx believing that the platform was not adhering to ‘the spirit’ of the initial contract, in terms of plans to showcase the channel in high definition.
A statement from Ginx Esports TV CEO Michiel Bakker reveals that Virgin Media haven’t stayed true to their word to broadcast the channel in HD after recent demands from viewers, stating: “It’s a shame Virgin Media has not honoured its originally stated intention to launch GINX TV in HD. Our viewers are increasingly asking us for HD, given the detail in video-game graphics, and our contract contained all necessary provisions to facilitate this transition.” Bakker has assured fans however that the company will be looking into alternative methods to bring competitive gaming into the mainstream viewing media.
This ends a five-year relationship between the two, launching on Virgin Media back in 2013. Ginx is also available on Sky, following its launch in 2016, serving as a round the clock TV channel, as well as being broadcast on Twitch and its own official website.
