Month in Review: February

From eSports to exciting releases, plenty is going on this February. Read on to find out why it’s been our busiest month yet.

February may be the shortest month of the year, but it certainly hasn’t been the quietest. With the eSports scene heating up and some great releases on the horizon, we take a closer look back at everything that happened these past 28 days:

Top Game Releases for February

Apex Legends

Apex Legends – PS4, Xbox One, PC

EA’s introduction to the Battle Royale genre via Respawn Entertainment’s Apex Legends has been this month’s true surprise hit. With millions of players swarming the game on its opening weekend, Apex takes a tried and true formula and gives it their own unique twist, with tight gameplay and reliable mechanics that may even rival Fortnite in time.

Far Cry: New Dawn – PS4, Xbox One, PC

The latest entry in Far Cry’s ever-expanding roster, Far Cry: New Dawn has gone the way of its past spin-off, Blood Dragon, with a unique and colourful environment that’s distinctly different from anything we’ve seen from the series so far. A direct sequel following the aftermath of Far Cry 5, New Dawn doesn’t do as much new as we might have hoped – but what it does do, it does well.

Metro Exodus – PS4, Xbox One, PC

A popular and beloved novel and series, Metro Exodus extends the hapless and mostly silent Artyom’s adventures beyond the winding subway tunnels beneath Moscow, depositing our protagonist into a larger and sprawling open world complete with exploration and crafting. For fans of the series’ style and feel, Exodus is a brand new way to experience post-apocalyptic Russia through the eyes of its survivors.

Anthem – PS4, Xbox One, PC

A divisive and ultimately unpolished title, Anthem released with little fanfare, and already seems to be losing its small fanbase after a hesitant first weekend. A game in the vein of the modern shooter, Anthem’s focus on RPG-style questing and grinding seems like a natural progression from the popular Destiny titles, but just doesn’t quite hit the mark.

God Eater 3 – PS4, PC

For epic RPG combat and Japanese-style action, God Eater 3 from BANDAI NAMCO is top of its league. Following on from the fun and innovative gameplay of previous titles in the series, God Eater 3 brings its own unique set of challenges in a beautifully stylised and well-designed world that fans of the series will enjoy exploring.
