Stewart 'Grave' Gibson is the fighting game loving, Doomguy worshipping, Motorhead listening maniac of DarkSpawn Gaming. When not ripping and tearing Stewart can be found riding the open roads or at the nearest Lucha Libre event.
It’s no secret that Ed Boon enjoys adding guest fighters into his games, in fact these days it’s expected. From Jason Voorhees in Mortal Kombat to Hellboy in Injustice, Ed Boon has had some of the biggest names in pop culture feature in his latest games. It shouldn’t come as a surprise then if we find more of the same in future games as well. So, with the Mortal Kombat hype being at fever pitch at present I thought I should take a stab (pun intended) at who will be the lucky (or unlucky, as they will probably be killed at some stage) guests in the upcoming brutal fighter.
There’s been a bit of hype around this one since Ed Boon responded to Cliffy B’s tweet a while back. To be honest though, this guy makes a lot of sense as he has a lot of different styles that could be worked in different variations such as his hands-on berserker, his ranged weapons and his close quarter shotguns and blades. Couple this with the fact the guy is a power house who regularly murders demons with his bare fists and you basically have yourself a new fighter who is literally ready to rip and tear everything in his path. With a few different looks down the line you could even customise him to suit the Doom Slayer or Doomguy you want to play as. We think that this is almost a little too easy if we’re honest, that being said; personally I’m a huge fan of Doom and would love to see this happen.
No, not Austin Powers, the other Michael Myers. Now, before I played Mortal Kombat X I would have been against the idea of characters like Myers and Jason Voorhees because they didn’t seem to fit the fighting game world. However, being the absolute geniuses they are NetherRealm done an excellent job with Jason and so I fully believe they could so the same for Michael Myers. With a mixture of strength but deceptively quick movement Myers could easily be a character not to be taken lightly. Fighting would be between his hands and his infamous kitchen knife which could lead to some brutal fatal blows and fatalities. In reality then the only downside to Michael is that his look hasn’t really changed in forty years and so customising him wouldn’t really lead to a lot but I’m sure NetherRealm could come up with something to surprise us. Also, with NetherRealm having used the other big three names in horror (Freddy, Jason and LeatherFace) it only seems fair that Michael gets his time in the blood covered spotlight.
Sektor and Cyrax have been the long standing cyborgs in the games since Mortal Kombat 3 but I think there have been more than a few people who have always wanted to see the original bad ass robot throw down with them. Being able to play as the T-800 with Schwarzenegger’s likeness would easily be one of the most epic things in gaming history. With no fighting style to speak of just raw brute strength and an assortment of weapons the Terminator would be a varied and fun edition to the already crazy line up that Mortal Kombat offers. The customisation for the T-800 would probably be one of the most fun things about it. Just think, you could have it with no skin or partially blasted skin, you could decide to make it female or even make it Robert Patrick. The amount of references could be endless and if there’s one thing we know NetherRealm enjoy, it is delivering fan service.
Oh, I know, I know but hear me out. This is the first of the new Mortal Kombat games where Shao Kahn will be playable so if you’re going to have a guest from another fighter then it has to be M. Bison. The main reason this is simple, it’s high time we saw these two titans go head to head to finally see who is baddest of the bad. That being said however, I do believe NetherRealm would do an outstanding job of bringing Bison into the world of Mortal Kombat while still making him feel familiar to Street Fighter fans. Using his normal Street Fighter move set Bison’s variations could easily be tweaked to separate his psycho powers and his martial arts to make him anything between a ranged controller to a teleporting bad ass. Out of all the guests I have mentioned, I think this would be the one that causes the craziest crowd reaction if it were to happen.
Of course, these are just the characters I would like see in the game, I’m sure everyone has their opinions on the matter and I would like to hear yours so feel free to drop us a line below and tell us who you would like to see mix it up with the Mortal Kombat cast.
Mortal Kombat 11 is due to release on 25th April for PS4, Xbox One, PC and Switch.
