NRG and G2 are among the teams who have surprisingly been eliminated from this season’s Rocket League Championship Series. The former produced one of the games of the RLCS tournament, going head-to-head with Cloud9 in an emphatic best of five series that went all five games. In fact, it took an overtime goal to separate the two teams, highlighting just how close the match really was, with victors Cloud9 heading on towards the lower bracket of the Grand Finals.
Meanwhile, ELeague Cup 2017 winners G2 were remarkably dumped out of the competition by PSG. Whilst the crowd favourites had fought back from a 2-0 defecit to take it to the final game, it was PSG who edged it with a 1-0 win to send G2 packing.
All surprises aside, Team Dignitas find themselves in the upper bracket of the finals, having remained unbeaten all season. This will at least bring some normality to expectations of how the tournament will go after the shock exits we’ve seen already. Dignitas are now surely heavy favourites to take the crown, though whether that’s a popular opinion is debatable, after signs seen from the Vegas crowd reading “Literally anyone but Dignitas.” All eyes on the finals, taking place tonight from 7PM GMT.
