The titles in the running for the eSports medal event at next year’s SEA Games have been announced, with the Philippine SEA Games Organising Committee’s eSports partner Razer confirming the news on Twitter.
The game that are in the running for the event include DOTA 2, StarCraft II, handheld titles Legends: Bang Bang and Arena of Valor, and Tekken 7 representing the console platform. Six gold medals will be up for grabs, meaning that another game has yet to be announced, and will also be a console platform contender.

Razer CEO CEO Ming-Liang Tan offered the following statement on the evolving legitimacy of eSports: “The shortlisting of six games in such a short time is evidence that the notion of eSports as a legitimate sporting event is no longer a fad. We look forward to having more partners come on board and join us in defining a new generation of sporting heroes for the youth and millennials.”
The 2019 SEA Games takes place from 30th November through to 11th December next year. This particular SEA Games will also mark the first major eSports event to feature a medal tally, something that was initially introduced earlier this year at an exhibition event at the Asian Games.
