Top Game Releases This Month

Most of this year may have passed but there are still quite a few major releases for gaming enthusiasts to look forward to. Since the wheels are always spinning in the gaming ecosystem, here are the top most anticipated games that are going to drop this month. So, without further ado, let’s get started with the top games that are scheduled to release in September.

Pathfinder: Kingmaker

Platform: PC
Release Date: September 25 2018

Considered an alternate to Dungeons & Dragons, “Pathfinder: Kingmaker” is a RPG that throws the player into a world of full-blown sorcery, a number of isometric adventures and loads of fun. What started out as a Kickstarter project has finally seen the light of day and boy, are we glad it did. That’s mainly due to the fact that this is one good looking game that takes you back to the golden days of PC single-player RPG games the likes of Icewind Dale, and Fallout 2. In Pathfinder, the player will get to customize their questing party before slaying the bad guys.

There are also plenty of variations in dialogue which makes gameplay interesting. Pathfinder: Kingmaker allows you to forge alliances and manage an entire empire, which shapes the rest of the game, and makes for an interesting experience. The future looks bright for Pathfinder: Kingmaker, especially since Chris Avellone, the godfather of the genre, is at the helm.

Valkyria Chronicles 4

Platform: PS4, Xbox One, PC, Switch
Release Date: September 25, 2018

If you’re into anime then you will definitely appreciate Valkyria Chronicles 4. The game takes place during World War 2, where the previous games left off. The game continues with its turn-based tactical strategy gameplay with a welcome addition of a multiplatform this time around. The game revolves around the story of Claude, the commander and his squad who are battle-hardened and ready to take on the enemy.

Players are going to be overseeing action via the BLiTZ system, which is a trademark of the Valkyria Chronicles series. Players are also going to be able to switch from a bottom/top viewing panel, which makes it easier to move around and take aim at the enemy. The patented CANVAS graphics engine of the game also creates a soft but dynamic graphics effect that adds to the aesthetics of the game.

Life is Strange 2

Platform: PS4, Xbox One, PC
Release Date: September 27 2018

Nominated for ‘Best Casual Game’, ‘Best Family Game’ and ‘Best PC Game’ at Gamescom, Life is Strange 2 ticks all the boxes when it comes to episodic graphic adventure video games. Life is Strange 2 comes from the developers Dontnod Entertainment and has been published by Square Enix, two companies that have been around in the gaming industry for quite a while.

The coming-of-age story is chock full of interesting characters, an interesting storyline, and even supernatural elements, all nicely packaged in a game about everyday struggles and the impossibly difficult decisions that the 16-year old Sean Diaz has to make. The game is made of five episodes, each one more intriguing than the last, as Sean and his 6-year old brother Daniel flee from their hometown and meet interesting characters along the way.

Those who are familiar with the first game will find the second installment to be different. While the first game focused on a linear storyline and a specific location, the approach taken by Life is Strange 2 is more traversal.

Insurgency: Sandstorm

Platform: PS4, Xbox One, PC
Release Date: September 18 2018

Insurgency: Sandstorm beta has been live since August, but those who want to purchase it officially will need to wait few more days, from the time this is being written. This is a sequel to cult classic Mod, which has been redone in Unreal Engine 4. The tactical shooter game takes on a minimalist approach despite its grenade dodging, hard-hitting action that’s nicely spread throughout the game, and is something you would expect with the genre.

You will barely notice any HUD, which is a first, especially for those who are familiar with the likes of Arma 3. To make things more interesting, the devs decided to scrap the hit markers, so you will often find yourself shooting the baddies multiple times just to make sure. The bullets in Insurgency: Sandstorm are especially deadly, as they should be. Don’t expect to be moving after you receive a healthy dose of quick burst fire in this game.

Players can choose between playing co-ops against militia that’s AI controlled or head-to-head, both of which are just as enjoyable. The one area where Insurgency stands out is the multiplayer firefights that will keep you alert at all times with no time to catch a breather. After all, this is exactly what many players want in an objective-oriented FPS.
