Which Streaming Service is For You? Twitch vs. YouTube Gaming vs. Microsoft Mixer

YouTube Gaming

YouTube Gaming was basically a response by Google for Twitch. It looks and works essentially like YouTube, the theme and color scheme is a little darker. The focus of YouTube Gaming is to offer you on-demand and live videos of video games. You’ll be able to explore a wide breadth of gaming related videos which range from walkthroughs all the way up till soundtrack compilations.

Will It Be Easy To Discover Things You Like?

The first page you land on in this application consists of Trending sections, alongside Recommended Videos, all of which bring to you those playlists and videos which are not live at the moment but were uploaded previously. These videos could be dated anywhere between a few hours ago to some that are several weeks old. Either way, this section is a great way of discovering all the content that you may have missed.

If you want to get into all the latest stuff as it is occurring all over the world, then you will simply have to click ‘Live’. In this section, you will be able to see all the trending live feeds that are happening at that very moment. It would also be quite hard to miss which videos are live because they will have a red ‘Live’ tag on them in the bottom right corner.

To follow the tradition of YouTube, there is also a section where you can explore videos by channel or game. Here, you will be able to pull out the most popular videos in the title. If all of this wasn’t enough, you will also have a search bar to help you pull out a video which is very specific to your needs.

If you’ve used YouTube before (who hasn’t?) then you will be able to easily decipher the layout of YouTube Gaming. The application is fairly easy to navigate in and you will catch on instantly.

How’s The Streaming Experience?

Streaming on this app is fairly simple, and can also be done directly from PlayStation 4 console. If you’re on the go (or just felt like it), then you can easily access the streaming services from your Android Smartphone – which is bad news for all iOS users. Also there is still no rumor about adding straight streaming from Xbox One consoles.

This streaming platform that has been around since 2011 is the oldest and biggest service out there. Its developer – Amazon, is currently boasting 10 million active users on a daily basis!

In this streaming service, you will be able to find the same old walkthroughs and live feeds, but there are some added features too. These include cosplay tutorials and gaming tip and tricks. There are even some large gaming companies and events that have their own dedicated Twitch channels. This is why Twitch may be the best play to be if you want to watch official feeds of events.

Is It Easy To Discover New Things?

Well, if you ask any user, they will be of the opinion that the UI is quite neat and it’s easy for them to find their way around the website. You’ll also find that there will be some big names at the very top of the homepage.

If those aren’t what you were looking for, then you can scroll down and find a plethora of streams that are either being broadcasted live or have been uploaded already with respect to channel, console or game. There is of course, also a search bar for you to look for anything specific.

The Twitch community is so diverse and large that there is a possibility that you will find a new channel every single day. This means that it doesn’t matter whether you’re new or a veteran gamer. You will definitely find something new and interesting here.

There have also been some latest changes made to this streaming service. This includes some services which have been maneuvered especially for those people who are interested in Hearthstone or Blizzard’s Overwatch. With Overwatch, it has now been made possible to filter streams on the basis of Hero. This means that a particular Hero is your favorite, then you’ll be able to find all the streams that feature this Hero – with just a click of a button.

How’s The Streaming Experience?

The streaming experience of Twitch and YouTube Gaming is quite the same – and they both can be done with the help of your PC, and console app. One thing that made Twitch better though, was that a recent update in its mobile app made it accessible for both Android and even iOS. If this wasn’t enough, you can even stream Twitch from your Xbox One.

In this article, Mixer is definitely the youngest competitor as it was launched in the early months of 2016 and was swiftly acquired by Microsoft. Similar to the other services, you’ll be able to find gaming-focused content on Mixer whether it was previously broadcasted or is being streamed live. Mixer, however, stands apart from the rest because it is a much more interactive experience for the users. This service may even be one that will appeal most to the Windows 10 and Xbox players out there as it has become completely integrated by the cross-platform plans of Microsoft.

Will It Be Easy To Discover New Things?

The interface of this streaming service isn’t quite that different from Twitch and YouTube Gaming. You can find some featured streams and streamers here which are happening at the moment or you can conduct searches that are specific to a game or channel. One drawback, however, is that it is much harder to look for older content on this platform.

The content here is also much less diverse as opposed to the other two platforms. Microsoft, however, has announced that there are several changes on the way and they will be implemented soon enough. These changes will include a moderated channel which is called ‘Channel One’. Other than this, a new page will also be added which will be called the Xbox One Dashboard.

How’s The Streaming Experience?

One distinct advantage of this platform is that it does not require any kind of capture card or third party broadcasting software. All you need to do is click the button and you’re on your way. That said, there is also a new app for this platform, for both iOS and Android users, but it is highly unlikely that we will see a PS4 integration anytime soon.

So there you have it folks. Three of the best game-streaming services but just one decision to make. What’s it going to be?
